Saddle Up & Hit the Trails

You can’t beat the view from the saddle. Mount up and hit the trails at one of our region’s excellent horseback riding facilities and gain a whole new perspective on the Green Mountain State. Horseback riding in Vermont is a fabulous activity to include on your next vacation or family outing, whether you’re an experienced equestrian or complete beginner. Area stables and ranches are equipped to match you to a horse and adventure appropriate to your ability, from pony rides to three hour tours of the Green Mountain national forest.

Try a horseback riding lesson before you head out on the trail- a great way to gain confidence or hone your skills. Guided trail rides will take you to some of our region’s most beautiful scenic overlooks, and give you a unique perspective of Vermont’s natural beauty.

Love horses, but not ready to ride?

Check out one of the many spectator friendly equestrian events in our area. During the summer, the Pond Hill Ranch Pro Rodeo lights up the night with tons of equine action and family fun. Bronc riding, barrel racing, roping, and bull riding will keep you on the edge of your seat without having to swing your leg over a saddle, or leave the Rutland region.

Just a short drive away, you can see some of the nation’s top horses and riders vying for top ribbons and prize money. Visit the Vermont Summer Festival in Dorset, Vermont for six weeks of non-stop action in show jumping and hunters. Or venture to South Woodstock, Vermont to the Green Mountain Horse Association, which hosts a different type of equestrian competition each weekend, from dressage to endurance, cross-country jumping to carriage driving.
