During the evening we will present REDC’s Annual Awards and celebrate the important work that our regional businesses continue to do in our community.

BROC-Community Action in Southwestern Vermont announced that U.S. Senator Patrick Leahy will be Keynote Speaker at their 51st Annual Meeting.
The event will take place on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 starting at noon in the Ballroom at The Holiday Inn Rutland on Route 7.
“We are very proud of our service to the community and we are excited about presenting our new Community Action Awards,” said Tom Donahue, CEO at BROC-Community Action in Southwestern Vermont.
“This will be an exciting opportunity to hear from our U.S. Senator and learn about BROC’s great accomplishments from the past year helping people throughout Rutland and Bennington counties.”
In addition, BROC will be presenting the inaugural Community Action Awards.
A 20 piece RHS Jazz Ensemble will be providing music.
The meeting is open and the public is encouraged to attend.

Historical Society Annual Meeting Features Irish Family History
Historian William Powers will give a slide presentation, “The Powers Family – From Mitchelstown, Ireland to Middletown Springs, Vermont”, at the 47th Annual Meeting of the Middletown Springs Historical Society on Sunday, Sept.18, at the Historical Society Building, 10 Park Avenue.
The meeting will begin at 2:00 p.m. with a dessert buffet, and a brief business meeting and election of Trustees for 2016-17. Mr. Powers will lecture at 2:30 pm.
William J. Powers, Jr. is a descendant of the Powers family of Middletown Springs and was raised in Rutland and Lake Dunmore ; received a BA from St. Michael’s College in Winooski; and a MA from Ball St. University, Muncie, Indiana. “Bill” was associated with the US Air Force for 40 years – 21 on active duty and 19 as a contractor at Hanscom Air Force Base, Massachusetts. He is the author of Leicester, Vermont’s Silver Lake: Beyond The Myths (2000) and articles in Rutland Historical Society Quarterly .
The meeting is free and accessible to people with disabilities.
