Artist Eve Jacobs-Carnahan will guide visitors through the Surface Expressions exhibit at the Chaffee Art Center on December 3, 2016, at 1:00 p.m.
As Eve shares her insights into the artists’ ideas and backgrounds, you will gain a greater understanding of the artwork and see new connections and themes.
A fiber artist herself, Eve will share her knowledge of the broad range of techniques used by artists in this lively show.
Eve Jacobs-Carnahan is a sculptor who works with yarn. Eve learned to knit as a child from her mother. Not content to knit mittens and sweaters, she was thrilled to discover the artwork of Katharine Cobey, Freddie Robins, and other artists pushing the boundaries of knitting. Eve has studied spinning and dyeing to expand her artistic tools and enable her to control the color and texture of the yarns with which she works. She has experimented with many methods of creating armatures for her sculptures by bending and twisting wire, and carving shapes from polystyrene foam.
Surface Expressions Artist Reception
Friday, November 18 from 5 PM to 7 PM.
Surface Expressions is an exhibition of current work by members of the Vermont chapter of the international Surface Design Association.
Surface design is any process that gives structure, pattern or color to fiber & mixed materials–such as felting, spinning, paper making, weaving, knotting, netting, looping, stitching, cutting, piecing, dyeing, painting, printing & embellishing.
Fiber artists are doing some of the most innovative work in the art world today, fearlessly exploring a variety of surface design techniques and fiber materials. Pieces in this show include both 2 and 3 dimensional forms by 14 artists.
Those exhibiting in Surface Expressions include: Judy Dales, Rosalind Daniels, Linda Finkelstein, Elizabeth Fram, Marilyn Gillis, Eve Jacobs-Carnahan, Ruby Leslie, Marya Lowe, Almuth Palinkas, Kathryn Price, Janet Ressler, Leslie Roth, Sharon Webster and Betsy Wing.
The reception is the public’s opportunity to mingle with artists and the art on the same evening. Refreshments will be served.

There will be 36 Design Exhibits, both Traditional and Creative. The show will also include approximately 100 judged Horticulture Exhibits including container plants, both foliage and flowering. Fall perennials and evergreen branches will also be judged.
Besides Design and Horticulture Sections, Standard Flower Shows also need to include Educational Exhibits. The show will have several educational exhibits, one on mandatory recycling and how you can comply with the comprehensive waste reduction program now law in Vermont.
