The town of Chittenden is unspoiled. Home to one small country store and no stoplights, Chittenden is idyllic and provides the perfect backdrop for those looking to disconnect and get lost in nature. Chittenden is best known for the reservoir that covers 721 of its acres. Locals and visitors alike love the reservoir for its prime fishing, boating (with watercraft with motors up to 15 horsepower), kayaking and canoeing, and swimming. Surrounded by Green Mountain National Forest, its shoreline remains heavily wooded and largely untouched. On the southern end of Chittenden Reservoir sits Lefferts Pond, a 49-acre shallow impoundment with a large wetland area. The Pond and its surrounding areas are home to many animals, including Moose, loons, black bears, and more. Both the Reservoir and Lefferts Pond are day-use areas and no camping is allowed. Canoes, kayaks, and stand up paddleboards can be rented from businesses in town, including Reservoir Dawgs Kayak Rentals and Blue Ridge Outfitters. When the Reservoir freezes over in the winter months, it becomes the perfect spot for ice fishing.

While you’re there, stop by Mountain Top Inn & Resort, a four-season destination located on 700 private acres of woods and meadow. Its restaurant and tavern offer unique menus using locally-sourced products whenever possible with unrivaled views of the surrounding Green Mountains and the Chittenden Reservoir.

Adjacent to Chittenden sits the town of Mendon, located between Rutland and Killington. Mendon offers an abundance of opportunities to play – and places to eat! Mendon Mini Golf & Snack Bar is open from late spring through October 11, 2020, offering an 18-hole Vermont-themed course. Mendon has several hiking trails, including the Bucklin Trail, a strenuous seven-mile out-and-back trail that takes up to six hours to complete. Mendon is also home to Pico Mountain, featuring 468-acres of skiable terrain across 58 trails. Opening day is scheduled for December 19.
