Chamber & Economic Development of the Rutland Region and Castleton University Launch Intern Hub in Downtown Rutland
Rutland, Vt. – Chamber & Economic Development of the Rutland Region (CEDRR) and Castleton University have launched the CEDRR Intern Hub, an innovative space located in Downtown Rutland, which will provide Castleton students with greater access and opportunities for experiential learning with employers throughout the region and beyond.
Last year, CEDRR and Castleton partnered to enhance internship and career opportunities and to increase overall community engagement amongst Castleton students. Kim Rupe, communications and community engagement director at CEDRR, has been working alongside Castleton’s Pathway to Graduation team to better engage students in workplace readiness opportunities and to connect regional employers with interns. With remote internships becoming more prevalent, the organizations brainstormed solutions that would allow Castleton students to participate in remote internships while also engaging in networking and experience in an on-site location dedicated to learning. In alignment with an increased interest in co-working spaces, the CEDRR Intern Hub, in partnership with Castleton University, was established.
“Our region is seeking young talent who wish to build their lives and careers here. To that end, we are offering Castleton students a coworking space in Downtown Rutland, which allows for increased networking opportunities and the ability to experience first-hand what a great asset the Rutland Region is for their future,” said CEDRR’s Executive Director Lyle Jepson. “CEDRR is looking forward to supporting students from Castleton University and our region’s employers.”
“We know that hands-on, experiential learning provides pathways for students to establish themselves into fulfilling careers after graduation,” said Castleton University President Dr. Jonathan Spiro. “Partnerships such as this one with CEDRR are why Castleton is ranked as the nation’s third-best college for getting a job after graduation.”
The CEDRR Intern Hub is located on the first floor of the Opera House on Merchants Row and has a current capacity to host seven students. The space has been generously provided by MKF Properties. Students completing experiential learning at local employers who do not have physical space for an intern are encouraged to utilize the new space.
