The Mechanical Maintenance Technician will perform a variety of tasks to assure the proper operation of plant processing equipment by performing mechanical plant maintenance as directed. RESPONSIBILITIES: Live the Omya Values; Modesty, Courtesy, Integrity, and Perseverance. Maintain safe working conditions and practices to achieve a zero (0) lost time injury record within the area of responsibility. Perform work duties in accordance with Omya Quality Systems Manual procedures. Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair all plant mechanical equipment as directed by the Mechanical Maintenance Lead or Supervisor. Regularly communicate interdepartmentally on the status of jobs, projected completion time, and the need (if any) for assistance. Accurately and completely document work effort and job status. Perform equipment rigging. Working at height from scaffolding, man lifts, and ladders. Keep work area clean, safe, and in orderly condition. Perform safety and mechanical inspections of work area and equipment before and after work performed. Follow all company safety regulations. Report immediately any accidents, safety violations, or other incidents to the area supervisor. Regularly respond to call-ins (nights, weekends, and holidays) for emergency mechanical equipment repair. This involves a greater-than-usual level of responsibility to bring the problem to resolution either by completing the repair or identifying and communicating with those in a position to do so. Other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: 3-5 years’ experience in mechanical maintenance required. This position demands a high level of mechanical aptitude. Areas of competence include, but are not limited to, millwright, machinist, heavy equipment maintenance, pipe fitting and/or general maintenance, welding/cutting, precision measurements, attention to detail, and documentation. Willingness to learn new technology – vibration, thermography, ultrasound. Job requires self-motivation and an ability to hold yourself to a high standard of quality work, in turn reducing frequency of repairs and increasing reliability. Exposure to solvents and lubricants, dust and fumes as well as other substances. Exposure to extreme environmental conditions, noise, and heat. Constant standing and walking. Frequent lifting, climbing, reaching, pushing and pulling. Occasional lifting of objects up to 100lbs. Must be able to read drawings to assemble and disassemble equipment, understand and carry out preventative maintenance according to the appropriate schedules.
