Carving Studio and Sculpture Center will hold their Annual Gala/Silent Auction The countdown is on for the 2016 Marble Mardi Gras at the Rutland Country Club, March 5, 5:30 PM. Each year the Carving Studio and Sculpture Center hosts the fundraising event in time to be a great cure for the winter blahs.The gala features cocktails and a silent and live auction with Bobby Prozzo, as well as a sumptuous dinner followed by dancing with live music by “Blue Jay Way.”A wide variety of items is offered, ranging from dining experiences and fine arts & crafts to vacation getaways, retail & service gift certificates and sport & fitness opportunities. Tickets for the event are $65.00 per person. Dinner seating is limited. All proceeds from this event go to support arts education programs of the Carving Studio and Sculpture Center. Devil’s Bowl Speedway’s 50th season of stock car racing just got an extra boost, as longtime marketing partner Central Vermont Motorcycles has doubled its support of the track for 2016. Central Vermont Motorcycles will return as the title sponsor of the Late Model division on Devil’s Bowl’s half-mile Asphalt Track and also joins the 3/10-mile Dirt Track to headline the Sportsman Modified class. Both divisions will be part of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series (NWAAS) championship structure. The Central Vermont Motorcycles Dirt Sportsman Modifieds will compete for NWAAS points for the first time in 2016, as drivers run for championships at the track, state, and national levels. Central Vermont Motorcycles will also present a night of racing action on Sunday, June 19 for The Dirt Track. Fans will get to see equipment from Central Vermont Motorcycles up close and speak with experts as part of a large display of motorcycles, ATVs, side-by-sides, and other machines at the track. Devil’s Bowl Speedway’s 50th season of racing will include NASCAR Whelen All-American Series-sanctioned action for both the asphalt and dirt tracks, totaling 27 scheduled events. The asphalt track will race primarily on Saturday nights, and the dirt track will race primarily on Sunday nights; opening weekend is slated for May 21-22. Rutland Regional Medical Center presents Lower Your Stress the Right way. Research shows that writing and journaling can help individuals face difficult challenges with past or present experiences. Expressive writing can help transform our health by lowering blood pressure, improving self-esteem, decreasing the heart rate and much more. Join Joanna Tebbs Young, MA-TLA, a certified instructor through the Center for Journal Therapy, for a FREE writing workshop. Joanna will coach participants through simple writing and doodling exercises that will help participants manage stress and long-term worry. Participation requires neither any prior writing experience, nor aspirations to become a writer. The workshop will be held on Tuesday, April 19 from 6-7:30pm at the CVPS/Leahy Community Health Education Center at Rutland Regional Medical Center on 160 Allen Street in Rutland. Vermont Adaptive Ski & Sports Tele Till You’re Smelly Pico Event will take place on March 13th at 8am. Ski around the mountain to different stations and take part in several activities with the final activity at the base. All skill levels welcome! Registration for event is $40. If you don’t have a Killington/Pico pass there is a $35 day pass ticket available. If you have a Pico pass of any kind it can be used on the mountain and all you have to do is pay for registration of the event. Registration includes a Spot in the Tele Event including placement prizes, raffle entry and pizza party with bar. Vermont Sports Medicine Center presents the 24th Annual (VSMC) 5K Run/Walk will be held this year on Saturday, April 30th and all proceeds from the event will benefit Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports and Kids on the Move. The annual event has become a staple among the “first 5Ks of the season,” where all ages and abilities are welcome to walk or run for two local causes. The 5K course starts and finishes at VSMC located at 5 Albert Cree Drive, across from Rutland Regional Medical Center. Preregistration is suggested and first 100 to preregister will receive an event t-shirt. The cost if one preregisters is $20/adults and $15 for kids ages 10-17. Day of registration cost is $25/adults and $20 for kids ages 10-17. Kids under 10 are free and adaptive athletes participate for free. The Kids Fun Run begins at 10 a.m. with the 5K run/walk immediately following after the fun run. Refreshments will be available for all participants, and prizes will be awarded to first-place finishers in all runner age groups.
