Police Officer
All visitors to the Rutland City Police Department must wear a mask covering the mouth and nose upon entering our building!
The City of Rutland and the Rutland City Police Department is committed to equal opportunity for all of its applicants and employees.
The Rutland City Police Department is seeking well-qualified, professional men and women for the position of Police Officer. As a historic city nestled in the heart of the Green Mountains of Vermont, Rutland is a family-oriented community with great schools, colleges, and a major hospital. Downtown offers opportunities for shopping, dining, theater, musical entertainment, comedy, and much more. The Rutland area has offerings for outdoor enthusiasts of every season with easy access to the Long Trail for hiking, Killington Ski Resort for skiing and mountain biking, as well as several lakes suited for water activities, camping, and public hunting areas.
The Rutland City Police Department has an authorized sworn staff of 39 officers, with 12 civilian support staff members. The department is divided into three divisions: Patrol, which includes the three-member Street Crimes Unit, Bureau of Criminal Investigations (BCI), and Project VISION. Unique among police departments in Vermont, Project VISION was formed in 2013 to take a collaborative, community-based approach to address the underlying conditions that often lead to criminal activity. We are a busy and fast-paced department, with a patrol area of 7.67 square miles and an average of 13,500 calls for service each year. Rutland City’s permanent population is approximately 16,500, which swells to more than 35,000 daytime visitors and residents.
