Brandon, in many ways, offers the best of both worlds. It has Vermont’s signature rural charm, with rolling hills and an abundance of recreational opportunities, while also being home to a vibrant downtown community.
Brandon’s central location makes it easy to get to from any direction, nestled between Rutland and Middlebury. Dubbed the “art and soul” of Vermont, Brandon’s downtown features several art galleries, studios, shops, and restaurants – all within walking distance. Stop by and view the work of Vermont artist Warren Kimble and more than 50 other artists at the Brandon Artists Guild. Be sure to visit Vermont Folk Art Gallery, Compass Music and Arts Center, and others sprinkled throughout town. (COVID-19 may impact openings and hours; please check before you visit).
Vermont is meant to be played in, and Brandon offers the best of four-season outdoor recreation. Moosalamoo National Recreation Area is one of Vermont’s best-kept secrets. Located in the heart of the 400,000-acre Green Mountain National Forest, Moosalamoo offers unparalleled hiking and biking opportunities. Lake Dunmore, a freshwater lake in nearby Addison County, is just minutes away from Brandon, for swimming, kayaking and canoeing, boating, fishing, and more. Branbury State Park is located on the eastern shore of Lake Dunmore, with a natural sandy beach, large open grassy areas are the perfect spot for picnicking, and campsites for overnight visitors. In the winter months, enjoy snowshoeing or cross-country skiing at Blueberry Hill Ski Center.
