The Rutland Region Workforce Investment Board (RRWIB) met at the Stafford Technical Center recently for the board members to hear from Brian Narkewicz, STEM Academy Faculty (Science Technology Engineering Math). Brian outlined the impressive engineering classes and course offerings currently being taught at STC and the educational and career opportunities for students when they graduate. He also provided a brief tour of the facility. Also at the meeting Chamber CEO Tom Donahue presented his ideas for the “WIB” to better communicate their efforts to the business community and the public. The Chamber plans on assisting them in meeting this goal. Among other topics RRWIB Executive Director Nancy Burzon presented in her report information regarding how a two-genration approach can help us win the war on poverty and about the book A Year Up by Gerald Chertavian. Terri Ballou and Harry Snyder updated the board on the Council on Youth (CYO) and the Adult Workforce Council (AWC). Terri Ballou of General Electric also spoke about the opportunities currently available at GE in the Advanced Machinist / Toolmaker “Apprentice Program”.
