New Laws Effective July 1st
Attorney General’s Office Small Business Initiative would like you to know about some new laws that are effective July 1, 2018 that may effect your business.
New laws taking effect July 1st include:
o VT recreational marijuana, Act 86, (see our office’s guidance to learn more)
o Protections in credit card terminal lease agreements (provides 45 days to cancel the finance lease)
- of Taxes created an online Business Center; a helpful tool for new businesses.
- Share your input about data privacy:
o AG Donovan and the Dept. of Public Service are hosting public meetings. The first meeting is Thursday, July 12, from 1:00 – 4:00pm at 29 Church Street in Burlington. Some of the topics include:
- Whether to regulate businesses that handle the data of consumers with whom they have a direct relationship.
- Questions and recommendations re: implementation of the Data Broker Registry.
- Changes that should be made to Vermont’s Security Breach Notice Act.
- Encouraging the growth of privacy-oriented technology companies in Vermont.
