Rutland Area Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice (RAVNAH) has been selected to participate in the Medicare Care Choices Model, announced by Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia M. Burwell. The model provides Medicare beneficiaries who qualify for coverage under the Medicare Hospice Benefit and dually eligible beneficiaries who qualify for the Medicaid Hospice Benefit the option to elect to receive supportive care services typically provided by hospice and continue to receive curative services at the same time. The announcement is part of a larger effort at HHS to transform our health care system to deliver better care, spend our dollars in a smarter way, and put patients in the center of their care. Participating hospices will provide services under the model that is currently available under the Medicare hospice benefit for routine home care and respite levels of care, but cannot be separately billed under Medicare Parts A, B, and D. Services will be available around the clock, 365 calendar days per year and CMS will pay a per beneficiary per month fee ranging from $200 to $400 to participating hospices when delivering these services under the model. Services will begin starting January 1, 2016 for the first phase of participating hospices and in January 2018 for the remaining participating hospices.
Rutland County Parent Child Center benefit Golf Tournament will take place on Friday, August 21st at Proctor-Pittsford Country Club. Check-in is 12 noon followed by a shotgun start with a scramble format at 1:00 pm. There will be many prizes including a Hole in One Jeep provided by Brileya’s Chrysler-Jeep. Rutland Regional Medical Center is offering Alzheimer’s Awareness Seminars. Alzheimer’s is a progressive disease that affects millions of people. According to the Alzheimer’s Association, approximately 473,000 people age 65 or older will develop Alzheimer’s disease in the United State in 2015. Rutland Regional invites the community to attend two free seminars that provide information on detection, causes, risk factors, and research on the value of diet, nutrition and social engagement. The seminars will take place on August 20, 2015 6-7:30pm, “Basics of Memory Loss, Dementia & Alzheimer’s Disease,” and August 27, 2015 6-7:30pm “Healthier Habits for a Healthier You,” Both seminars will be hosted at the CVPS/Leahy Community Health Education Center located at Rutland Regional Medical Center on 160 Allen Street in Rutland. The Carving Studio & Sculpture Center has tickets on sale now for their Fine Arts Raffle. Winners will be drawn at the opening reception for SculptFest2015, September 12. Gift Certificates for artwork and jewelry, as well as creative sculpture workshops at the CSSC are featured prizes. This year, the popular fundraising event features 10 prizes ranging in value from $1,000 to $100.00. Fine Arts Raffle tickets cost $50.00 each and there is a limit of 220 tickets.
