Graphic Design USA has sponsored areas of excellence for creative professionals for over fifty years. The American Graphic Design Awards™ is the original competition of its kind and open to the community, including ad agencies, freelancers, design firms and more. These awards recognize various projects across the entire suite of creative media, such as print, point of purchase and internet.

Homeless Prevention Center’s invites you to attend their 3rd Annual Dinner, Dance & Silent Auction on October 22nd, 5-10 pm at the Moose Lodge in Rutland.
The evening will include dinner, dancing, 50/50 raffle, cash bar, raffles and silent auction. Tickets are $25 per person; $40 per couple or $75 for 4 and available at the Homeless Prevention Center, 56 Howe St., Patch Place in Rutland. Otto’s Cones Point Fall Festival will take place on October 8th & 9th. Join them down at the store for a fun weekend of fabulous eats, family fun & games, Music @ The Moose performances & other surprises! And stop by to visit us on the streets of Poultney at our vendor display!

Rutland Regional Community Television (PEGTV) is a multiple winner in the 2016 Alliance for Community Media-New England (ACM-NE) video festival. PEGTV’s Access news magazine is the recipient of four awards that are listed below by place finished, category, and segment title.
1st place – Documentary – “Betsey Cox Summer Camp”
2nd place – Science, Health, and Spirituality – “RHS YES! Stream Program”
2nd place – Community Impact – “Global Issues Network Conference”

The AMC-NE is part of the National Alliance For Community Media (ACM). They work with the state chapters of the ACM in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York and Vermont. The awards will be presented at the ACM Northeast Region’s Trade Show and Conference in Portland, Maine on October 22, 2016.

Rutland County Humane Society will hold their Blessing of the Animals on Sunday, October 9, 2pm. In Honor of the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi, the Patron Saint of Animals, please join the Rutland County Humane Society and Reverend Muller, of Trinity Church in Rutland, for the Blessing of the Animals. Bring your pet, or a picture of your pet, for a special blessing by Reverend Muller. All dogs must be leashed, and cats and other pets must be in secure carriers.
The ceremony will be held outside on the Humane Society lawn, and all are welcome. For more information go to rchsvt.org

The Carving Studio and Sculpture Center announces the dedication of a public artwork on Sunday, October 9, 2016 at 1 PM. The permanent installation at Kennedy Park is in partnership with the Town of Brandon, Vermont. Led by master sculptor Nora Valdez, a team of teen carvers created the Stone Bench this past summer. The group included Elijah Brown, Andre Greb, Ella Kearns, Serena Nettleton, Jadella Rivers, Tin Skoric and Emily Wight.

United Way of Rutland County would like to announce that Jim Kahle, Vice Chair of the board of directors, will temporarily lead the organization as Interim Executive Director. Kahle takes over for Nanci Gordon, who served as the organization’s Executive Director since January 2015, but is no longer employed by UWRC.
Board Chair, Carrie Allen states that the organization is excited to have the 2016/2017 fundraising campaign underway and looks forward to the continued work with our partner agencies; tackling the most important needs in our community in the areas of Health, Income Stability and Education. “It’s business as usual at the United Way of Rutland County. The campaign team, under the leadership of Collin Fingon, with Jim’s support is working on what we hope will be a very successful fundraising year, raising much needed funds for our friends and neighbors of Rutland County.”
United Way of Rutland County is one of 1,200 United Ways in the United States and one of 1,800 worldwide. Serving Rutland County residents since 1943, we are an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the common good, focusing on health, education and income stability. We are the largest non-governmental fundraiser for local services in our community.
VELCO is turning 60. To honor this milestone, VELCO is holding a celebration with REDC to support the launch of Rutland’s Makerspace. The Makerspace represents VELCO’s thank you to Rutland; a way to give back to the community in a way that inspires the values of collaboration, innovation and service. You are invited to the celebration with local food, live music and a showcase of local makers to celebrate the past and present and embrace the future of Innovation. The celebration will take place on October 27th, 5:30-7:30pm at the Vermont Farmers Food Center. The cost is $20 per person. Click here to register.
All proceeds from the event support the launch of the Greater Rutland Makerspace, an initiative supported by Rutland Economic Development Corporation (REDC).
