Rutland County Humane Society’s 10th Annual Dock Diving will take place on Sunday, September 17th at The Palms at Prospect Bay. Registration begins at 11am, practice jumps begin at noon, competition starts at 1:00. There will be prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place longest jumps in categories from Novice to Pro. Rutland County Humane Society “Duck Derby” will be held on Sunday, September 24 at 2 PM – 3:30 PM. This 6th annual Duck Derby will take place at the Pittsford Recreation Area. Rutland Region Workforce Investment Board (RRWIB) and its partner, Vermont Adult Learning, have named Pierre Cotton Program Coordinator for Three Steps Forward for Young Men. The program, funded by The Bowse Health Trust, will provide local young men additional support to graduate with a high school diploma and with a clearly articulated plan for meaningful employment with advancement opportunities leading to financial security and healthy lives. Rutland Veterinary Clinic and Surgical Center, in honor of World Rabies Day, will hold a free rabies clinic on Thursday, September 28th, 10am-6pm. The clinic is open to any member of the community. They will vaccinate both cats and dogs. The clinic is free, but donations are encouraged and will be sent to Hurricane Harvey relief efforts. Dogs should be on leashes and cats in a carrier. The Carving Studio and Sculpture Center will host an opening reception for “SculptFest2017, The State of Hope” Opening Reception on Saturday, September 9th, 5-8pm. An exciting group of artists will present sculptural and video installations for SculptFest2017 at the Carving Studio and Sculpture Center. The opening reception for the annual exhibition is scheduled for 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Saturday, September 9. Proposals were submitted in response to this year’s theme of “The State of Hope.” Guest curator Whitney Ramage selected site-specific works by artists Jessica Adams, Lila Ferber, Charles Hickey, Yasunari Izaki, Kate Katomski, Tom Kearns, John Morris with Maya Murphy, Gary Parzych, Rick Rothrock, Ryan Smitham and Joanna Sokolowska The opening reception is free and open to the public, featuring live music and refreshments. The annual Fine Art and Steven Mestyan, Jr. Scholarship Raffle drawings will be held at 7:00. SculptFest2017 closes October 22. Vermont Farmers Food Center will hold their Harvest Festival in the Farmers Hall at Vermont Farmers Food Center. This will be a locally grown farm to table feast you won’t want to miss. Wonderfeet Kids’ Museum will hold their 3rd Annual Wonderpaws Festival & Paw Parade. This is a community event for all ages to enjoy a day in downtown Rutland with their dogs presented by Pet Gear and media sponsor The Mountain Times. The festival and parade will take place onSaturday, September 16, 2017, on Center Street from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. The kid-friendly and dog-friendly festival features demonstrations, a scavenger hunt, crafts, an obstacle course, a hay maze, activities, photo opportunities, food and more. A raffle of Pet Gear merchandise will be open to all. The Paw Parade will take place at noon. The event is free and open to the public. All dogs must register to participate.
